The Cavalry Youth Soccer Program has Arrived!

College Station, TX – A new competitive youth soccer club is coming to the Brazos Valley!

The new Cavalry FC Youth club has been created to provide opportunities for local boys wishing to play competitive soccer at the highest level.

Cavalry FC Youth will fall under the umbrella of US Youth Soccer (USYS), the South Texas Youth Soccer Association (STYSA), and the Brazos Valley Youth Soccer Association (BVYSA).  The youth club will be directed locally by Texas A&M head soccer coach G Guerrieri as Technical Director, with Adriano Versari as the Director of Coaching of competitive teams (10-18 year olds). Mark Wilson will be Director of the Youth Academy (7-10 year olds). A Board of Directors will oversee the club and is comprised of local soccer and community leaders.

Guerrieri is one of the all-time winningest head coaches in NCAA division I soccer history.  He is a seven time collegiate “coach of the year” and has led the Aggies to 16 conference championships, as well as 22 consecutive trips to the NCAA Championship Tournament. Coach G was raised on club soccer in the Dallas area, is a former club soccer Director of Coaching, and has served many years in the USA’s Olympic Development Program as a state and regional coach.  He will serve on the Cavalry youth club’s Board of Directors as a volunteer and advisor on soccer decisions within the organization.

“This is an exciting time for soccer in the Brazos Valley,” commented Guerrieri.  “The unique opportunity to partner directly with the Cavalry PDL team as well as with BVYSA gives us the ability to directly connect the youngest soccer playing boys in our community all the way up to professional soccer.  I am committed to see our Bryan/College Station kids benefit from this partnership and to make this a huge step forward in the coordination of soccer organizations and personalities for the benefit of our local kids. The timeline for this launch has been really quick, but I'm pleased with the professionalism of the Board and am very confident in Adriano putting together a great coaching staff for the teams and the Youth Academy in the weeks leading into tryouts.”

The partnership of the Cavalry youth club and local recreational clubs in Bryan, College Station, Caldwell, and Madisonville is designed to help kids at every age, and to help develop quality coaches for those players.

“This is such great news for local soccer families of the Brazos Valley,” commented Billy Hart, President of the Brazos Valley Youth Soccer Association.  “The Cavalry will obviously provide a great experience for the competitive boys of our cities, but the club is also committed to the education of local recreational team coaches and players.”

The youth program has formed a partnership between the new local BV Calvary FC Professional Development League (PDL) team.  This relationship between the youth club and the PDL team is unique and mutually beneficial to this area.

“This is a great day,” said Cavalry PDL president Uri Geva.  “The youth club provides a wonderful base of support for our PDL team.  We are a perfect partner in creating dreams, and for fundraising and development for this premier youth club.  When Coach G came to me with the idea of partnering our team with local youth soccer for the benefit of the sport and the soccer players in the Brazos Valley, I didn’t hesitate to say ‘yes’ and immediately start working to make it happen.”

The Cavalry and Cavalry FC youth teams will share sponsorships and wear the same uniforms and club badge.  The youth players will be ball boys at Cavalry home games this summer, and take part in numerous joint ventures benefitting the local community.

“I’ve been in this community for nearly a quarter century and have seen soccer come a long way and great players developed. Now the Cavalry will take the next step by featuring professional coaches, leadership, and a membership with an emphasis on developing our local kids to the highest levels, while also lifting the sport of soccer throughout the Brazos Valley.  The Youth Club will also be a developmental partner with the recreational clubs in our communities.” said Guerrieri.

“The senior team is associated with the Houston Dynamo, but the youth club will not be a business partner with the Dynamo/Dash youth club or any other soccer club outside the Brazos Valley.   However, we will actively work with any US Soccer Development Academy or ECNL club in the larger cites of the state, so that if/when local Cavalry kids progress to a level of play in the Boys DA or Boys ECNL top divisions then we want to provide a bridge for those players and their families to play with whichever program in Houston or Austin which is best for that family.  Even though we want to work with the Dynamo, Texans, Lonestar, and other clubs in larger cities, our emphasis will always be on making decisions for the benefit of local kids, and to help them realize their soccer dreams as youth, college, & professional players and as leaders.

“This is an exciting time for soccer in the Brazos Valley”, said Neal Ellis, Director of Coaching for the South Texas Youth Soccer Association.  “I’m so pleased to see Coach G, Adriano, and Mark all on board to help develop local kids and to grow the game in the Brazos Valley.  They will do a great job for the families and players.”

The Cavalry youth club tryouts will be held in May and June in College Station.

“We will be holding tryouts for our youngest teams in mid-May and older teams in June, in coordination with the PDL home opener for The Cavalry’s senior team,” said club Director of Coaching Adriano Versari.  “We are creating a transformational club for the kids and soccer families of our community, and can’t wait to get started!”
